Travel to Tokyo

Tokyo

Tokyo, an incredible mix of historical and modern culture, is Japan’s adrenaline-rush capital city..

Prepare for the trip of a lifetime when you book your flight to Tokyo with Philippine Airlines.

Tokyo Historical Site

Tokyo is famous for its technology and modern architecture, but there is still a lot of historical culture. Visit Tokyo Imperial Palace, the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan. Only the grounds outside the palace are accessible to the public, except on New Year’s (January 2) and the Emperor’s birthday (February 23), when visitors can enter the inner palace grounds.

Shopping Experiences

Ginza is one of Tokyo’s largest shopping districts, with boutiques, retail, markets, and sushi bars to keep you occupied. For a great shopping mall, visit Tokyo Solamachi. Not only is there great dining and shopping, but also an aquarium and planetarium.

Day Trip to Mount Fuji

Take a 2-hour bullet train from Tokyo to Mount Fuji to visit Japan’s tallest peak and an active volcano. Mount Fuji is considered one of Japan’s most sacred mountains. Guided tours and hikes are available.

Tokyo’s Ueno Park

Ueno Park is a large park in central Tokyo with zoos, museums, and iconic cherry blossom trees. Spanning over 133 acres, there’s plenty of exploring to do. Visit the ruins of the Kan'ei Ji Buddhist Temple, destroyed in the 1868 Boshin War.

Unique Architecture

Located in the district of Minami-Aoyama, home to a pineapple cake shop, this cake shop hosts one of the most brilliant yet underrated pieces of architecture you can find in Tokyo. The building was designed to resemble a bamboo basket using a traditional Japanese joint system ‘Jigoku-Gumi’.

Place of Worship

Visit Tokyo’s oldest and most significant Buddhist temple, Sensō Ji. Its first incarnation as a temple came about in 628 AD to house the statue of Kannon, goddess of mercy, which was found by two fishermen brothers. Admission to the temple is free. Allow an hour to explore the temple grounds.

Tokyo Monuments

Besides the iconic Tokyo Imperial Tower, there is an excellent array of monuments to explore in Tokyo. Discover similar architecture at Kinkaku-Ji, an iconic golden pavilion, or visit the tallest structure in the city, the Tokyo Skytree, standing at just over 2,000 ft (609 meters).

Cuisine

Tokyo is one of the most exciting places for incredible cuisine. Japan hosts some of the world’s best foods, and you’ll be right in the heart. There’s a never-ending selection of sushi to delve into as well as other dishes like tempura, chankonabe (favored by sumo wrestlers) and ramen.

Events

Cherry Blossom viewing is a popular tourist attraction celebrated annually in Tokyo. The best times to visit are March and April, when the colors are at their most vivid, and the cherry blossoms are celebrated across the city.

Climate

Tokyo has a humid subtropical climate, with warm summers and mild winters. If you’re visiting in the summer, when the warmth is at its peak of 21 to 32 °C, wear light & breathable clothing.

Public Transportation

Traveling around Tokyo is almost like traveling in the future, with fast trains and buses to get you wherever you need.
